Soon I was back in the 50-60 hour work week rhythm. Three years later I was told I would have to take on more responsibilities because of lay-offs. The next day, I was the one being laid off! WHAM! Unemployed again! I got to be really good at cutting my expenses! I cut coupons, only bought things that were on sale–forget about going out to eat or having any "extras" like cable or a cell phone! Here I was in my 40s working the same job I had in high school – giving swimming lessons and lifeguarding– just to buy groceries!!! This time it took me a full year to find another job – in a state 1000 miles away and after a short time the bad economy hit them too and I was laid off again.
